PALAZZO NUOVO UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

Turin 1992- 2001

The Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Turin is housed in the heart of the city, in the historic Palazzo Nuovo, realized in 1966 from a project by Gino Levi-Montalcini and the Bardelli-Morelli-Hutter architecture firm. The new Library was realized in the basement level, utilizing an area previously used as parking, and obtaining additional space from below the inner courtyard. In this project much care was devoted to eliminating the inconveniences of the library’s non-ideal underground location.
