The City of Monza effort to create a new library into the convent of San Paolo (bMB) matches the purpose of recovering and enhance the monumental complex. The building, with its architectural value, is the witness of the history of Monza.

Scope of work is the full restoration of an abandoned historic building.

With this purpose the project promotes a compatible architecture reuse, while paying attention to the history of the building, to its nature and in general to its engineering properties.

Only by using appropriately the space it is possible to give it back its lost vitality. The spaces are divided according to five functions:

A) Entrance with general information and community related services.

B) Teenagers and young adults area.

C) Multimedia didactic area / laboratory of ideas.

D) Classic open shelf library services.

E) Spaces for exhibitions, cultural and entertainment events.

Spaces and functions are deeply interconnected and have fluid boundaries. Flexibility, especially for sector A is essential.

Starting from the logical scheme of paths and functional relationships a meta-project concept has been identified. The entrance sector (A), the fulcrum of the project, is accessible from two opposite points and permeable to the city. Within it, interrelationships are created between the activities (current events and first information A.3 - newspaper library A.4 - reception A.1 - loan A.5 - cafeteria A.6 - toilets - cloakroom A.2).

From the entrance sector you can access the different units (B, C, D, E, F, G), some of which are directly connected (C -E - B - D).
