SAN LUIGI GONZAGA RENOVATION HOSPITAL
Orbassano 1995 - 2010
The building subject of the intervention is Pavilion 3, which dates back to the original plant.
The perimeter walls had the typical technical characteristics of the construction period, insufficient for the current needs to contain energy consumption. They were made with an external solid brick plan with exposed face, an empty air chamber without insulation, and an internal panel in plastered perforated brick.
Furthermore, the external facing showed signs of degradation.
The intervention, which involves the construction of an anti-seismic exoskeleton, solves both problems. It consists in the construction of a “structural coat” and the replacement of existing windows with new high-energy performances.
Once the external panel in hand guard had been eliminated, the deteriorated and unstable parts of the façades and the wall repairs carried out, a metal frame is inserted, inside the empty air chamber, improving the resistance of the structural frame to horizontal thrusts.
The complete coating of the facades is performed with an insulating layer of extruded polystyrene foam filled with graphite on which a fiberglass mesh and paste-colored plaster is applied, maintaining the technical characteristics and ten-year color.
The lower part is strenghtened with an increased reinforcement mesh.
