FACADES SAN LUIGI GONZAGA HOSPITAL
Orbassano 2019
The aim of the project, developed in 1995, was transforming the San Luigi Gonzaga hospital complex, born as a convalescent home for the treatment of tuberculous diseases into a General hospital.
All the missing services were therefore planned from scratch or reorganized and strengthened: Emergency, Resuscitation and Cardiology, locating them strategically with respect to Radiology and Operating rooms, minimizing the routes while enhancing the efficiency.
A first batch of works (1995-2000) involved the construction of an operating department with four rooms and related accessories, the Sterilization unit, the Cardiology department, the Hemodynamic department, and the Cardiological Intensive Care Unit (UTIC).
A second lot (2001-2010) involved the construction of specialist outpatient clinics, of Functional Rehabilitation and one of the most innovative Resuscitation units in Italy.
All interventions are compatible with a sustainable development.
Energy efficient ventilated facades in titanium and zinc have been adopted for the extensions, and preference has always been given to dry working with environmentally friendly, recycled and recyclable materials.
A significant reduction in energy consumption was achieved with strong insulation of walls and windows and with the use of high-efficiency light sources.
Furniture, equipment, and clinical technologies are coordinated with the building works to integrate and follow each other seamlessly.
