PRIMARY SCHOOL VIA BROCCHI
Milan 2016 competition
The new school in Via Brocchi (Milan) aims to convey a sense of membership and participation, to become a school to feel proper, involving the creative intervention of the students. The structure, advanced from the technical-didactic point of view, fits into the surrounding context to establish a system of relationships.
The common areas (outdoor area, gym, library, and auditorium) are open to the community and are enhanced by the fully glazed facade and entrance.
The wood-based construction technology is highly sustainable as materials are selected considering their renewability and low energy content during their life cycle. This entails the containment of consumption and makes any extra costs amortizable in the short medium term. The use of modular and prefabricated wooden structures also reduces installation times on site.
By limiting access to private vehicles, access to the new building is eased and the integration with the cycle path system is strengthened.
The indoor air quality is guaranteed both by floor-to-ceiling windows and by a controlled mechanical ventilation system which allows real renewals indoor air.
We paid particular attention both to the acoustics, with specific stratigraphies of walls, floors and windows; and to the internal natural lighting, through “solar chimneys” which avoid strong thermal dispersions or glares.
