MICHELIN HEAD OFFICES

Turin 2002 - 2005

The restoration aims at obtaining new plant head office facilities and modify part of the production area.
The most evident modifications, other than the new distribution of interior spaces, consist in a series of courtyards through the partial demolition of the roof structure. Such courtyards open all the living areas to more natural light and air.
The new outer walls are covered with a ventilated metal sheet panelling facade.
The supporting structure is a metal frame, chosen for its straightforward installation and load reduction capacity. The new outer walls are made of insulated metal panels with a ventilated, pre-painted aluminium sheet panel facade, and feature double-glazed aluminium fittings.

In agreement with the client, we adopted a special and advantageous works management approach. The values of general contacting have been eliminated, dismembering the combined set of works plus work contracts (structures, constructions, electrical and mechanical systems, etc.). Thus, it was possible to directly choose the various sub-contractors, coordinated directly by the Works Management unit. The greater responsibility of the latter is amply compensated by the substantial saving in building costs, and by a better control over quality of the work being conducted.
